Reducing Your Garbage Bill

Garbage is garbage; it's unavoidable in today's world and there must always be a way to dispose of it and much to our dismay that usually costs us a little bit. While you may not think it at first, you actually can reduce your garbage bill even though you still produce garbage. While it is possible, you can't reduce your garbage bill at all if you're just charged a flat rate. This only works if you're charged subjectively.

Believe it or not you actually can reduce the amount of garbage you produce. For starters, buy items in bulk because then the packaging is less for what you actually buy. This is a great way for you to reduce the volume of trash you produce. Another thing to consider is to reuse what you can. You can reuse water bottles (which aren't very environmentally friendly anyway) and use plastic containers for storing food instead of stuff you just throw away.

Recycling, while environmentally friendly, usually adds on bucks to the garbage bill instead of reducing it. If you want to help the environment, go for it, but don't expect it to help out your finances any. If you can find other uses for your garbage then by all means do it, but that falls under the "reuse" category rather than recycling. The sad truth about your garbage is unless you're charged a "by the bag" rate or by volume, you really can't reduce your trash bill. Most places just have a flat rate and you may simply have to shop around for the best one.

While reducing your garbage bill may not be as possible as you would like, you can rather focus your frugality on other bills like utilities and water. There are easy and immediate ways that you can reduce those bills and then your flat rate garbage may not seem so bad anymore!
